Our company just launched an exciting program designed to attract mature talents into its workforce. They plan to do this by offering rewards to employees with successful referrals from our friends and family (yep including family). The reason why it is so exciting is that the company will give us lots of freebies and wads of cash in exchange for these talents. There are certain conditions however before you can get that reward. The applicant should stick to the company for several months and the employee should still be employed with the company at the end of that period. The offer is limited only to technical positions in the company (engineers, geologists, chemists, etc.) and not other positions such as Human Resources, Marketing, Accountants, and IT. Apparently, IT professionals and Marketing staff are a dime a dozen these days. Clever huh? Is it hard to be with somebody else when the right one comes along? Not really. It has been quite some time since I have updated this blog. It is just that I am very preoccupied with some things that have been happening in my life lately. I have a confession to make. No, it's not a very big confession at that. It is just something very personal that I want to get out of my system. I think I am in love. In fact, I fell in love twice in the last year. There I said it. It wasn't too hard as I thought. Nothing disastrous happened when I said it. No lightning flashed, the ground did not swallow me whole. Well, I suppose that is not the hardest part. That part is yet to come when I try to explain just what the hell I am talking about. It took so long to write about it here on my blog. I guess it's because of the feelings of guilt. Fire Tree Afternoon

As if the hot atmosphere and brilliant sun is not enough to remind us that summer is here, the brilliant red fire trees all over the golf course just screams summer! At this time of the year, the tress lose most of their leaves and red flowers begin appearing all over the branches. These tress are all over the place and the one pictured above is at the golf course near the road going to the our office. A few of my colleagues and I just couldn't resist taking a little break from work and examine the trees a bit closer. We just goofed around looking out for stray golf balls and the occasional cow which actually looked surly. We took a few pictures (some rather embarrassing ones with bunches of flowers on my head) and head on back to work.

Burning Bananas

My sister bought me this exercise gadget a few months back. Well it's not an exercise machine exactly but a device that tracks down how much exercise you have done for the day. It's a pedometer that you attach to your hips and it will give feedback on how far you have walked, average speed, how many calories you have burned and how many steps you have made during the day, each of these information is displayable in the LCD screen depending on which option you set on the device. Mine is the istepX1 from www.sportbrain.com and it's really cool. Aside from being a step counter, the device has a USB interface that you plug into a computer. Your exercise history is then stored online and you can compare your progress against your set target and even with the average steps made by all users of this device worldwide in your age range (I always fall behind the average of my age range). They claim that seeing the average performance of your age helps motivate you to exercise more.

Movie Marathon and More Balloon Twisting

The committee for the employees club decided to go all out this year. Instead of having a one night club party where we have free food and live entertainment, this year they opted for a 3 day bash with various activities lined up. The first day will include the kid's art exhibit, a kiddie bingo, movie marathon and a mini fair. The second will be a singing contest and the third night will be a poolside dinner party. I was informed last week that I will have a booth during the mini fair. It seems that the kids liked my balloon animals so much (I have made them in previous parties) that they were requesting me to do a repeat performance. I bought a bunch of balloons and a new double action hand pump. I couldn't find the balloon twisting book I got from my niece so I just tried to recall how to make the figures from pictures.
